This section attempts to answer the most common questions asked about our us and our hosting services. If the information you need is not here you are welcome to contact us or try our comprehensive knowlegebase.

Does Netports Australia register domain names?
Yes. All types of domain names including all Australian domains are available through Netports Australia's My Internet Names. My Internet Names offers domain name registration at very reasonable rates and has been set up to be independent from the main Netports Australia site - so you can use it to secure your domain name/s without being tied into our hosting.

What are Netports Australia's DNS (domain name server) names?
We have a number of nameservers. This depends on what server your hosting account will be set up on. We advise you in our "Welcome To netports Australia" email.

Do you offer a website design and development service?
Yes. However, we will only undertake a set number of projects at any one time. This is to ensure full attention is afforded to each project which also results in a speedy development time frame. Subsequently, the availability of our website design and development services remains pending application. View our Website Development section.

Does your hosting support SSI, PHP, MySQL or ASP?
We support SSI, PHP and MySQL but do not support ASP.

Why don't you offer a 30 day money back guarantee?
It is an all too common occurrence where unscrupulous individuals sign up for a hosting account then use it to send millions of spam emails or power some other form of questionable, damaging or illegal activity. They then ask for their money back and quickly move on to the next hosting company before the effects of what they have done become fully apparent.

When this happens it places at risk all hosted website accounts on that particular server.

Netports Australia places unconditional priority on protecting each and every hosting client and so we simply do not allow a situation to exist that puts our hosting clients websites at risk. Yes, it will mean we will lose potential customers, but for us, protecting those that have already placed their trust in us is much more important. Our reputation as the north's number one webhost was not born from putting at risk our customers for the sake of getting new ones!

Will my website be hosted on a powerful server?
Absolutely. Positively. YES. All Netports Australia NPH Premium hosting accounts are currently hosted on quad Xeon™ 3.0 GHZ CPU / 4 GIG RAM / RAID HDD Poweredge™ SuperServers - within the top 10% most powerful mainstream hosting servers in the world today. And our NPQ hosting is on blazingly fast dual Xeon™ 2.8 GHZ / 4 GIG RAM powerservers located right here in Queensland. We have built a reputation on providing our hosting clients with supreme levels of performance and reliability. Don't foget to ask "what are the specifications of the server my website will be on?" if you are looking at getting webhosting elsewhere - this is one of THE most important considerations.

How quickly will my account be set up after I sign up?
Account set ups are processed within 1 hour from receiving confirmation that payment has been made. However, it can take up to 24 hours for us to receive your payment confirmation. Your welcome email containing all the information on your new hosting account will be sent to you, and you can start uploading your website files then.

Is my Macintosh computer compatible with your hosting plans?
Yes, our web servers use standard FTP (file transfer protocol). Therefore, you can build your site on any Macintosh or Windows PC and use FTP to upload your website files to your account, and it will display on any type of computer running any industry standard browser.

Do you provide technical support?
Yes, absolutely. We provide 24/7 technical support via our online Support Form in our Support section. This goes directly to our technicians for immediate action.

How does Netports Australia handle system backups?
We create daily backups of our systems with full backups weekly for disaster recovery purposes. You can also easily create your own entire website backup file and download it to your own system for safe keeping. We suggest you regularly utilise the excellent feature available to you in your cPanel™ for your own peace of mind.

Do you provide support for any cgi scripts I install?
No. Netports Australia does not provide any support for third party cgi scripts or programs you choose to install. Support for these is best obtained from the developer of the script. Usually most programs will be supported well by online forums and support groups, as is the case with all the programs available to you through Fantastic.

Where do I upload all of the files pertaining to my website?
You need to upload your website files to your "public_html" directory inside the root of your account. Files uploaded below your "public_html" directory, such as in the root of your account or in your ftp directory will not be available on your website.

Can I send out unsolicited e-mail?
Absolutely not. Sending out unsolicited e-mail from your Netports Australia hosting account is a direct violation of our Acceptable Usage Policy. Please read our section regarding the Anti-Spam Policy. This includes sending unsolicited e-mail using another SMTP server referencing any websites hosted by Netports Australia.

For the protection of our hosting clients as well as our good name, Netports Australia has a "zero-tolerance" for violations of this policy. Failure to abide by this policy may result in us pursuing financial reimbursement for the costs incurred in "cleaning up" any malicious spam activity that originates from you. Don't even think about sending spam, it is now almost totally ineffective as an advertising method and is just not worth the potential cost to you.

Do you allow adult websites?
Netports Australia chooses to follow the classifications of the Australian Office of Film & Literature Classification. Although not specifically for website application, these classifications have been refined over many years and represent the most complete and correct method for classifying public material.

The Office of Film & Literature Classification is the Australian Government agency that administers the national classification scheme for all films, computer games and submittable publications that are exhibited, sold or hired in Australia.

Netports Australia does not permit the serving of websites that would constitute an "RC", "X" or "R" classification as defined by the Office of Film & Literature Classification.

All other classifications are permitted. You can download the classifications definitions: Classifications Definitions (pdf)
